Should a 1 year old have a pillow in bed?

My little girl is about to turn 1, we have just lowered the cot as she is standing up in it now, and the cot bumper is no longer any use. Should she have a pillow? Is it safe at this age? Or are the bare bars (wooden) ok? She does tend the settle with her head on an edge and I just worry it will be uncomfortable.
