Why do people dislike me at work?

I work a blue collar job, and am currently attending school in hopes of a business degree. Everyone at works assumes I am rich and get comments like: "why do you care, you have tons of money", and many more. They also make me feel very unwelcome because I am pursuing a college degree. Some people say im snooty because I like Starbucks Coffee, and loves politics. I don't act snooty and treat everyone with kindness and respect. I just don't understand why the look down on me.
